MP’s share life - long experiences with Girl Guides Queensland

The Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk welcomed Girl Guides Queensland representatives to Parliament House in recognition of the organisation’s century celebrations and to launch ‘The Friends of Parliament’ partnership.

The partnership is designed to raise the profile of Girl Guides Queensland in both city and country communities and kick - start sales of the 2019 Corporate Biscuits Campaign.  MP’s from both sides of the political spectrum have pledged on - going support, assistance in navigating government’s policies and grant opportunities together with introductions to their extensive corporate networks.

It is hoped that not only will these networks provide additional biscuit selling opportunities, a significant source of program funding, but the opportunity for Girl Guides Queensland to build corporate sponsorship alliances.

In her opening address, the Premier, spoke about the centenary of Guiding in Queensland, the new partnership and passionately about her time as a Girl Guide.

‘As Members of Parliament and Queenslanders we congratulate Girl Guides Queensland on this fantastic milestone and thank you for your contribution to our state throughout the last 100 years.  We welcome the opportunity of working together and making Girl Guides even stronger, not just this year, but for many years to come. I remember my time as a Girl Guide and the valuable lessons I learnt along the way.  Not only were the values taught at home reinforced, I was introduced to a leadership program that has helped shape my political career.  I look out at all the fresh, young faces and offer this advice; take hold of every opportunity Girl Guides Queensland offers you; continue to formulate opinions, voice them and embrace the experiences that lay ahead’, she said.

The well represented contingent of Girl Guides Queensland in attendance, was headed up by State Commissioner, Velia Nicholls, who added to the Premier’s sentiment by saying, ‘We greatly appreciate the support pledged by the Members of Parliament and look forward to a long and prosperous partnership.  At Girl Guides Queensland we pride ourselves on nurturing and growing tomorrow’s leaders and providing an environment where young women can excel in preparation for a meaningful contribution to our communities both at home and abroad’.
